2009 ACCP/ESCP International Congress on Clinical Pharmacy

Every 5 years, clinical pharmacists from around the world come together to exchange new knowledge and best practices and to discuss global health care issues. Be there from April 24-28 2009 to join the international clinical pharmacy community at the International Congress on Clinical Pharmacy, cosponsored by the American College of Clinical Pharmacy and the European Society for Clinical Pharmacy. Meeting events will be held at the Orange County Convention Center and the Rosen Centre Hotel in Orlando, Florida.

In conjunction with the International Congress, the 2009 meeting agenda includes the ACCP Pharmacotherapy Preparatory Course and symposia presented by the Pediatric Pharmacy Advocacy Group (PPAG). Enjoy the convenience of all three meetings with one registration! www.accp.com/congress.

EUFEPS PharmSciFair 2009

A great event in Pharmaceutical Sciences is coming up:
the second PharmSciFair will take place in Nice, France, from June 8 - 12, 2009.

PharmSciFair is the premier European Platform for Advancing Pharmaceutical Sciences, initiated by EUFEPS. This became absolutely clear during the first PharmSciFair in 2005, where 26 National and International organizations in Pharmaceutical Sciences joined together. More than 700 scientists coming from all pharmaceutical disciplines contributed and set up a truly interdisciplinary meeting of the highest standard. The meeting was accompanied by a comprehensive exhibition.

An even greater number of organizations have committed to the 2009 PharmSciFair. An exciting program has been set up, which promises up-to-date presentations of front line pharmaceutical research and development.

All information, including the current partners, is on the PharmSciFair homepage (http://www.pharmscifair.org), also accessible through the EUFEPS homepage (http://www.eufeps.org/) as well as through PharmSciFair Partner ones.

There you can also find information on the 2009 PharmSciFair Young Scientists Meeting, which will be organized as pre-satellite meeting, open to our next generation pharmaceutical scientists (http://www.apgi.org/presatellitePharmSciFair/). PhD students and postdoctoral fellows from all over the world will convene in Nice to exchange ideas and discuss the latest developments in pharmaceutical sciences.

Pharmacogenetics in context

Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain, London

Description

Understanding the impact of genetic variability in drug response is an important component of the implementation of personalised medicine. However, rapid and widespread introduction of robust and acceptable genetic tests is yet to happen.

This symposium will review the reasons for this and the current state of play with regard to the translation of research findings into clinical practice.

The symposium will be of interest to academics, industrial and regulatory scientists interested in the issues, as well as clinical practitioners and those concerned about patient and physician acceptance of genetic testing of drug response.

Enhancing Solubility Understanding to Maximize R&D Productivity and Minimize Cost

Philadelphia

Description

Why Are We Doing this Event?

This year’s Pharma IQ conference is essential for scientists working in preclinical and clinical phases who wish to understand how to use their solubility data to identify poorly soluble drugs. More importantly, identifying what could be classified as poorly soluble but have good exposure clinically to avoid unnecessary formulation development costs, accelerating development timelines, expanding pipelines, effective research investments, and incorporating the correct strategy are all vital for scientists working with poorly soluble drugs to ensure that they have the best techniques, expertise, and technologies to produce and develop drugs that are more bioavailable. This conference, now back in the U.S., will provide the necessary updates, cutting edge science, strategies, and technologies incorporated by other companies that will enable you to find out what best practice is for you!

Revised European Guideline on Bioequivalence - An EUFEPS-BABP Network Open Discussion Forum

Bonn

Description

All of you, who want to participate in an important revision process of the new regulation for bioequivalence studies, are invited to participate to this meeting.
The Basis for this meeting is the draft for the revised version of the CPMP Note for Guidance on the investigation of bioavailability and bioequivalence, released for consultation in July 2008: www.emea.europa.eu/pdfs/human/qwp/140198enrev1.pdf

Discussion topics, amongst others, will be:
  • proposed regulations on characterisation of the investigational medical product (IMP)
  • administration conditions (single dose fasted as ”gold standard”?)
  • alternative designs (e.g. two stage studies)
  • exclusion of subjects
  • measurement of metabolites and enantiomers
  • bioanalytical procedures
  • dose strengths to be studied
  • studies on special dosage forms
  • PK parameters and acceptance criteria
  • highly variable drugs
  • urinary data
  • statistical procedures
  • dissolution tests
  • BCS-based biowaivers.

The intention of this gathering is to give scientists from industry and academia the opportunity to discuss the new regulations with representatives from regulatory authorities in Europe.

The Meeting will be organised as an “Open Discussion Forum” based on comments submitted to the organizers in the run-up phase to the event. All participants are invited to present their views and suggestions, based on their own experience, during the discussion and support these proposals with experimental data.
